Feelin Lucky Punk? This PC Build is awesome!
The Cost of this right at this moment is actually $777.37 but I feel safe rounding to an even (and awesome) $777 dollar PC Build that will act as both a workstation AND Gaming PC.
Unbelievable? Believe it.
First off, here is a screenshot proving the price:
For reference also here is the link to this exact list (note, prices fluctuate daily so probably will not be the same as the screenshot price =)
This build was super fun to put together. It was created as a budget friendly build to take care of your gaming AND working needs with ease.
Whether you are doing a project with spreadsheets for work, or taking a break to play the newest PC game, this build has got you covered.
TAKE NOTE this is not a super-duper gaming PC. Nor is it an extravagant workhorse machine. The best gaming PC ever would cost you thousands, same as a PC built for running extreme video rendering software.
It is, however, an awesome middle ground which can work wonders on both fronts…and for a decent price at that.
It’s also all going to fit neatly inside a Micro ATX Tower that can be placed anywhere. Could be at a desk, or moved easily to the home theater system in the living room. Ladies and Gentlemen…this right here is a very versatile setup!
Take note, most PC builds leave out the OS. In this one I have INCLUDED Windows in the cost! I did not include accessories needed like a monitor or keyboard/mouse setup. That, my friend, is up to you.
Let’s start by doing a quick breakdown of what is included in this build, then go step by step explaining each component and why it was chosen. The build includes the following:
- CPU – AMD – Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor
- CPU Cooler – Wraith Stealth (INCLUDED with AMD Ryzen Chip!)
- MOBO – MSI – B450M GAMING PLUS Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
- RAM Memory – Corsair – Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
- HDD Storage – Seagate – Barracuda 2 TB 3.5″ 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
- SSD Storage – Crucial – MX500 250 GB 2.5″ Solid State Drive
- GPU – MSI – Radeon RX 580 8 GB ARMOR OC Video Card
- CASE – Cooler Master – MasterBox Q300 MicroATX Mini Tower Case
- PSU – EVGA – SuperNOVA G3 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
- OS – Microsoft – Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit
Now we’ll take a look at these components one at a time, and why they are an awesome pick for this “lucky” build…let’s go!
CPU – AMD Ryzen 5 2600
Right now this extra value chip is ruling the market. It’s price recently went down and it has proven itself in benchmarks across the board. The AMD Ryzen 5 2600 averaged just 11.9% lower than the peak scores attained by other CPU leaders. Yet, it is an extremely cost effective item right now.
To compare it to a similar Intel chip for reference would probably be the Core I5-8600K. This intel chip is currently about 2x the cost at about $260 vs $139 and the AMD Ryzen 5 STILL beats it on benchmarks.
How about them cookies, Intel!
You can see the benchmarks for yourself right here:
This also works great seeing as this is very much an AMD centered build for cost effective performance like no other. (see, I told you it was lucky 777!)
ALSO – Please note, this CPU has even MORE value since it comes with it’s own Wraith Stealth CPU Cooler! Awesome Sauce.
Mother Board – MSI B450M Gaming Plus Micro ATX
Sure…this MOBO looks cool, but what else is great about it? Well first off, it is made to support the awesome CPU we are using in this build. That means you are almost guaranteed a great performance when combining the two.
Another great feature is built in performance boost for the DDR4 RAM memory we are also using with this build. Boom another match! It was built to be VR ready for current gen VR headsets, and even has an audio boosting feature ensuring great sound from games or youtube.
Finally…it is a micro ATX board which fits our small but awesome case making yourself an all around great build for entertainment and working wherever you need it.
RAM Memory – Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB DDR4 3000
Like I mentioned before, this DDR4 is meant to work at a boosted performance level with this MOBO. That being said, it is also taking advantage of the 2 slots given for RAM by using 2 x 8GB cards for a total of 16GB!
For a small-medium budget build like this, it is excellent to have this much memory. Currently the minimum recommended for most games and programs is 8GB (or 2 x 4GB). I mention this because it not only ensures you can run most games/software (VR headsets included) but also keeps you rig current as minimum specs continue to rise.
Better to get it now then need to upgrade later. Especially at this great price point for these above average RAM memory components!
PC Storage – 2TB HDD & 250GB SSD
Ahhh storage…how I both hate and love you! Storage is one of those things that we must have and be smart with. Nowadays everything needs more and more storage memory, which means you need to be smarter with your purchases.
What we have here is a 250GB SSD from a brand with great consumer reviews (doesn’t always have to be a Samsung SSD people!) which is to be used mainly for installing your OS. That way you get the speed of an SSD for the OS and basic storage needs for the 7200 RPM HDD.
and….speaking of the 2TB Seagate HDD! You should have plenty of room for all your projects, pictures, and games for a while with 2000 gigs of space. The SSD will take about half its space for the OS so if you need certain games installed on it, there is still room….then the rest can go on the HDD.
I know it works, because this is my exact setup for my current build at home! I make tons of graphics, art, movies, and have games installed….yet still have plenty of space on my HDD.
GPU – MSI Radeon RX 580 8 GB
Here is another example of another budget component which is still killing it! Yes, a $500 RTX 2070 or $700 dollar RTX 2080 card would be better than this, but how much better? This AMD specific card is currently only $159 which is perfect for this build.
Yet the performance is not an outrageous difference. Not only that, this is another addition which works in tandem with the AMD friendly MOBO, and Ryzen CPU. You are going to be getting every bit of performance out of this available…and to make a comparative visible difference would need a computer costing 2-3k.
That, my friend, is why I love this build! Your RX 580 with 8GB of GDDR5 memory is going to take care of most of your gaming needs without a hitch. PLUS it has been proven to also work great with current VR devices (working of course with this CPU and 16gb of RAM memory). Unbelievable for a total price of $777?….Poggers!
PSU – EVGA SuperNOVA G3 550 W 80+ Gold
If you follow the link to PCPARTPICKER.com at the beginning of this post, you will see a total estimated wattage of 354W. What does that mean? Means that 550 Watts is more than enough to cover this build, and future upgrades!
Here is something else awesome about this though. PSU’s in general have quality ratings that use colors to describe the level of quality. Example: low to high = White, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum.
What is this one? It’s gold…GOLD! For a budget friendly build, having a gold quality PSU from a well known manufacturer is exactly what you want. Did I mention yet that it’s fully modular? That makes it easier to install and maintain cable control. Amazing!
Case – Cooler MasterBox Q300 MicroATX
This Cooler Master Case is perfect for this build. I wanted to create something in a small form factor, yet still look great…and this does the job nicely. It is a MicroATX which fits everything in this build, looks like and performs like a more expensive case than it is, and provides excellent air flow to help keep everything cool.
Just imagine this beauty newly built and ready for almost anything your imagination can throw at it. Use it as a home theater PC in the living room? no sweat. Need it in a small corner desk in your home office? Gotcha covered. Need to carry it between your office space, and Projection room for on-the-wall gaming sessions? Your good to go.
Basically when you build this your nerdy friends will be jealous. Which is OK because when they ask you how you built it, you will call it “lucky” and send them right here to PCBuildIt.com. Oh Snap!
OS – Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Normally when a build is done on a website…there is no OS included. I got your back, Jack. Sure, I could tell you the Linux OS is free…but we both know are going to go get Windows anyways. It’s what I did! I didn’t want a limited free OS for my fancy new build, so why not include it?
Maybe you actually want to install Linux for right now and purchase Windows later. That’s fine too, and you will save $99 buckaroos! Just know that $677 is not a lucky number…but $777 is 😉
Seriously though, you have that option.
You have any option you wish, because that is the beauty of building your own PC! If you want to upgrade any feature we have talked about to make your own PC that much better…you can. I personally love that fact!
I think that just about does it for this build. I hope you enjoyed it, and am excited for anyone who decides to go for it and build this awesome setup.
If you do, I am gonna want to hear about it. Let me know in the comments if you are building this, what you are excited about it for, and when you plan on getting it done. I am happy for you too, so don’t forget to let me know if this has been a help to you.
Until next time my friends…happy building!
Your Nerdy Friend,
